Evanston Oak Team
Helping Evanston's Oaks, One Tree at a Time
"Humans could do much to end the extinction crisis if every person in the world became the advocate of one species."
-Douglas Tallamy, Bringing Nature Home
About
My name is Mike Kegler and I'm the founder of Evanston Oak Team. I saw the area where I live losing beautiful old oaks, elms, and ashes and felt hopeless. I realized I could regain my optimism by taking care of and planting young trees. I've chosen to focus on oaks because of their importance to the ecosystem of the Midwest, but I hope to promote straightforward techniques and engage in meaningful projects to help all trees.
Most weekends Spring-Fall you can find me following these simple tree care methods with oaks in my neighborhood and trees around my house. I am also working on the Evanston Mini Forest Project in the hopes of planting the city's first Miyawaki forest in the next five years.
Much of what I know about trees and tree care I learned from Openlands. I am Treekeeper #1495.
